Yercaud is famous for its picturesque beauty and climate in South India. This attractive and demanding hill resort ,Yercaud is located in the shevaroy hills in Tamilnadu , Yercaud got its name from the Tamil words , Yeri and Kaadu, meaning lake and forest respectively discovered it in the before 19th century by the British, who introduced the coffee plant here. Today this is one of the states most productive areas, and its surrounding slopes are entirely covered with plantations. There is a large native Shandy (bazaar) every Sunday and a smaller one on Wednesdays, where vegetables (Chiefly native produce) and fruits are sold. Yercaud is a hill resort located on Shevaroyan Hill Range in Tamilnadu. It is around 230 kms. from Bangalore and around 30 kms from Salem. It is a small town and famous weekend destination in south India, relatively unknown place and very, very peaceful. Why its very famous and peaceful destination because there is nothing to see but this is a very plus point Yercaud hills. No museums, palaces or gardens.
